Serawak is a huge coastal province on the north side of the Island. The province is bordered to the northeast by Boeloengan, to the east by Tidoengsche, the south by Koetai, Madi and Pontaningal and to the west Keisarangan.

The largest of the principalities, this land is barren and rugged, with the highest rainfall of the island and still struggles with erosion as the plant life is still recovering from the curse. Very few areas have full lush jungle cover and grasslands are the predominant terrain. The population are primarily nomadic with a few central trading towns. Goats and goat products are the main produce and a vital part of the economy.

The population of this land has dropped dramatically over the past few years, rumours abound of Bandits and mercenaries that prey on the weak outside of the towns and people are leaving for other provinces. A House Ban on emigration has led to vessels being searched in the major ports and people smuggling has become a profitable industry.

The Curse

For the past several hundred years a curse of salt attracting has lain upon the land covering the whole province. This appears to be the cause of the formerly barren lands. This Curse was lifted in 806 by a Guild Party as documented in the scribe notes

House Philadelphus

This house has always been somewhat apart from the rest of the Houses. The differences in terrain in the Serawak province from the rest of the island also translate to the population and the major houses.

The House is staunchly patriarchal to the point of sending away daughters to be raised by extended families. Wives of the house are not accorded the House name and as such most Houses from other provinces are reluctant to let their daughters marry into the House. This has led to substantial inbreeding within the house.

Diplomacy

Friends

The somewhat odd nature of the House has left them with few friends and many acquaintances.

Enemies

  • House Voturia - No-one is certain of the source of the enmity but Agelastus Amatius Apollonius has vowed that House Voturia will be destroyed before he dies.
  • House Philadelphus - In 806WK Rubico Marcius a senior advisor was assassinated while visiting Koetai as part of a trade delegation.
