Date: 26/12/08

The guild boots Sin and Mirage, who have spent far too long in the training halls, out of the guild out to investigate one of a set of strange magical disturbances that has been occurring all over Carzala. They set out on guild horses in the early ours of the morning for Smackbottom. The intrepid adventurers of no particular skill (and especially lacking that of Ranger) manage to follow the well sign-posted roads, and arrive in Smackbottom in the early evening. They arrange for rooms, and meet Reginald the village elder who explains the odd circumstances. There have been strange lights near the bond both Jimmy and Alfred have seen them. Alfred the herder from the south west field, has seen glowing blue/green lights by the village bond, and Jimmy the stable boy (John's lad) claims to have seen them as well and to be feeling odd, however, he is known to be an attention seeker and to be unreliable. A field hand in the western field has also claimed to see something odd, and yesterday there was an unusual (metallic burning) smell in the whole area for approximately 10-15min. Reginald also imparts other village gossip and rumour. Jimmy then comes running saying there is one chasing him and it is in the stables, we go to investigate, and there is indeed a glowing blue white ball of energy in the stables. It disappears before we can investigate deeply, it starts a few small fires in the hay but does no real damage. We sleep with watches.


Date: 27/12/08

See Reginald in the morning, there is no further information. We go to talk to Alfred, and he tells us exactly where he saw the balls of light, we go to investigate around the pond. We notice that the water is about 2ft lower than it should be, and then we find a hexagonal opening with stairs spiralling down, the debris indicates that the water has been drained down the stairs. We investigate and determine that the stairs lead to a single room which contains a triangular obelisk with Chaos inscriptions which has lightening streaks running down it, and occasional sparks flying off it (we don't touch it!), the octagonal structure is from the plane "Eternal Fortress" and the nature of its magic is Summoning. The balls of light might be magical bleed-off from the obelisk.

We decide this is serious enough to warrant an immediate report back to the guild. We leave a posse of Ricks daemons divinating the obelisk, then while we are waiting we go back to the village and write a message for the guild, Reginald arranges for a messenger, and we get them to take one of our horses. Then we go into the western field to talk with the worker who reported seeing lights, they just saw the events at the pond. We go back and meet the daemons who have finished, the obelisk is a partially activated magical conduit which will allow daemons through from the plane of the Eternal Fortress.

We return to the village since Jimmy's evidence and body language indicate he is lying about something, after the courtesy of asking John for his permission, we shake Jimmy down. Jimmy found the hexagonal spiral opening, went in and touched the obelisk. We wait for night, so that we can divinate Jimmy while he is asleep. Jimmy now has the Chaos "gift" of precognitive "future sight" in the form of a semi-permanent death-curse like magic with a very high MA. Just as we are finishing a more experienced guild operative shows up and takes over.

We sleep for the rest of the night and return to the guild in the morning.
