Overview

Jurgenmark is a County bordered by the vast Dragonspine Mountains along the northern border and has a lot of lessor mountain ranges throughout the area. There are several tracts of woodlands along with several lakes. The people of the county live mostly in the Southeast and Southwest of the realm.

Geography

The County has two main passes which usually enable regular entry (except when extremely bad weather) to the realm and these are:

1. Yorgen Pass to the west (Drakenburg), and
2. Alryn Gap to the south into County of Graunzeger.

To the East is the Mythrin Plain is a pass (Mythrin Pass) into County of Fesenheim which is only open when extremely good weather allows passage, due to its high peak saddle.

History

This county has a dark and checkered past, perhaps to do with being in the Dragonspine mountains and rarely seeing sunlight.

Prior to 825wk

Since 810wk the Count of Jurgenmark has been conspicuously absent from the court (his court functionaries are still at court and working for the kingdom) but the taxes have still flowed, albeit severely reduced ones due to the reported incursions of trolls, drow, bandits and assorted other monsters.

The Great Plague of 810's

The County had imposed severe travel restrictions since 816wk when around 25% of the population died from this plague. Reports are that the Count was forced to burn entire villages (along with crops and livestock) to keep the plague at bay.

Quarantine 811wk

The area has suffered a pestilence/plague since 810wk of an other worldly origin, King Ulric imposed a quarantine of the county in 811wk with royal guards stopping inward and outward travel in regards to the county. He had declared the area March of Sanitaire under the Margrave Alfred de Camus.

The years of subjugation

Between 810 and 815wk the realm was in the thrall and control of a number of evil entities, mages and creatures which took advantage of the weakened realm, killed almost all of the nobility and secretly ran the realm. This was not fully recognised until 820wk when the WK began to take active measures to surround the realm and start long term planing to retake the region.

Since 825wk

The reconquest of Jurgenmark - Summer 825wk

King Ulric and his righteous forces launched a massive series of attacks upon the County of Jurgenmark to free it from its evil oppressors. This was successful but a few small holdouts remain which have been surrounded by WK Forces and may take some time to be fully cleansed. Elves from the Charitable Foreign Service are assisting with the understanding of Issues and the cleansing processes.

The Void Bringers have been largely eliminated but some 'deaths' are more difficult to prove than others.

Jurgenmark reopens - Autumn 825wk

The WK has officially opened the borders to Jurgenmark and although there is a significant element of danger in the region, the presence of heavy Western Kingdom forces in the area makes it safe for trade and people movement again.
Some refugees are heading back to their homes to see what remains and what is required to rebuild. The WK forces in the area will also help with the rebuilding if not directly involved in other operations.

Economics

The economics of the realm are based on non agricultural assets. It does have an abundance of fish in its deep mountain lakes and a number of large herds of hardy mountain animals such as goats, Deer, bison, sheep and more
Jurgenmark is rich in mines supplying Iron, Lead, Tin, Copper, Salt, Gem mines, Marble, Gold, Silver and a silk mine

As of 825wk, Ulric The King of the Western Kingdom, has appointed Henric as Lord-Protector of Jurgenmark, Margrave of Jurgenmark, Defender of the Northern Marches and Keeper of Virehold. He is charged to oversee the stabilisation of Jurgenmark, work to restore it to Western Kingdom rule and rid the realm of the wretched unholy invaders.

Uncovered Knowledge

The County known as Jurgenmark was known historically to the Elven Empire as Site 666 or colloquially as the Vault of Shadows and from what records the Western Kingdom have been able to cite, it was a location for experimentation by Elven 'scientists' and others, as well as a location to store, house or hold various powerful weapons, entities or enemies of the realm. The knowledge of the area, its purpose and its contents was mostly lost during the Elven civil wars and the subsequent purges of knowledge and departure (and death) of various entities over the past millennia. Only fragments of the information can be found in various remote vaults, libraries and institutions but various people from the Elven Civil Service are starting to piece the information together for the current age.
