Arcane items

Since the fall of the Gates of Hell, some old magics have returned. The Mages of Freetown (and their rivals) are able to take advantage of this and now shape items previously unknown to many.

Overview

Characters gain cash and 'Arcane Points' from a range of employers. These can be spent by the character on items from the Mages of Freetown. The system or framework is listed on the wiki. Normally items will be able to be traded or given to others or sold back to the Mages.

Sometimes, items from time to time might be recovered from fallen enemy.

Selling Arcane items back

Items can be sold back for some of their Arcane Points and some of their cash value. Time (such as expiry dates) or charged based items have a value based on percentage of remaining use. This is to say 2 charges out of 10 would have a 20% value. If sold back it would be 50% value of this 20%. An item which lasts 48 months and has 12 months remaining would be worth 25% of its value.

The Mages of Freetown

The Mages often travel to other lands and realms to create and recharge items in places of power. These are often geographical locations high in mana for a short time within a season. The mana is used by the mages and replenishes with time. Often these places will be contested and fought over.

The Mages of Freetown also have items from other regions such as the cities of Adjepbar and Sanctuary. From time to time they also have available special limited items.

Seagate Adventurers Guild

The Seagate Adventurers Guild gives new members 2,000sp and 10 Arcane Points upon joining.

Older members get a starting bonus of 'Arcane Points' equal to twice their Perception
attribute but no money the first time they wish to purchase any Arcane items. This is
once off per character. This is in addition to any rewards from adventure.

Redeem / Sell Items for Arcane Points

Members are able to redeem older items for Arcane Points. There are two ways to do this:

  • Four plus items which are valued at over 500sp each will be accepted and they need to total over 5,000sp. You will get 5 Arcane Points for these items.
  • Up to three items which are of any value individually and together are valued at a total over 12,000sp. You will get 15 Arcane Points for these items.

A Quick Guide

  1. Get some Arcane points and Silver Pennies for each character.
    1. Get them by selling old items (See Keith Smith or Ian Anderson at a Guild meeting).
    2. Get them by writing for the Seagate Times (see SGT Editor).
    3. Get them from Adventure as payment (See your GM).
  2. Choose out of:
    1. Arcane Mage (Yellow Set),
    2. Rogue & Fighter (Leather Set),
    3. Heavy Warrior (Iron Set).
  3. Open the PDF for the Level 1 set you have chosen (ie Yellow, Leather or Iron).
  4. Purchase any of the Base items in the set first - Pay both Silver Pennie & Arcane Points cost.
  5. Purchase any other items (as long as you have any base item for that set).
  6. Once you collect some items check the number you need to progress to the Level 2 Sets.
  7. Also at some point check out what the Set bonus is and when.
  8. Once you have the progression requirements go to step 4 and continue as you see fit.

Other things you can do is sell items to the Mages of Freetown for Silver Pennies & Arcane Points.

Arcane Items

The Mages of Freetown know of three basic laws at this time. They are working to unlock other laws. These laws influence and shape the availability of magic items. They also affect how items work together.

Mage Arcane Rogue & Fighter Heavy Warrior
Name Progress Bonus Name Progress Bonus Name Progress Bonus
Level 1 Yellow Set 4 6 Leather Set 4 4 Iron Set 4 4
Level 2 Silver Set 5 4+1 Dagger Set 4 6 Shield Set 6 4
Level 3 Green Set 6 12 + 2 silver Blue Set 6 2 Gauntlet Set 6 4 + 4 shield
Level 4 Wand Set 3 5 West Wind Set 4 6 East Wind Set 7 4
Level 5 Brown Set 5 4 Poison ? ? Redemption ? ?
Level 6 South Wind Set 8 10 + 9 green Steel Set 7 5 Blood ? ?
Level 7 Purple - ? Hydra - ? Copper - ?

Laws

At this time the three laws are: Mage Arcane, Rogue & Fighter and Heavy Warrior
A character will only be able to purchase and use items from one group of Laws.
Items come in sets. All sets have a name (which is often a colour), all have one or more base items and all have a set bonus and a progression point.

Sets

Currently known sets;
Mage Arcane: Yellow, Silver Set, Green Set, Wand Set, Brown Set, South Wind Set and Purple
Rogue & Fighter: Leather Set, Dagger Set, Blue Set, West Wind Set, Poison, Steel Set and Hydra
Heavy Warrior: Iron Set, Shield Set, Gauntlet Set, East Wind Set, Redemption, Blood and Copper

Set base items:

While you have the base item of a set, you are able to purchase items of that set. Without the Base item you will not be able to use many items within that set. If the base item is lost or destroyed then a replacement must be purchased before you are able to continue using dependant items within that set. Items which are dependant are noted on the item write-up. The lack of a base item does not stop you finding or being given other items within a set.

Progression point:

A number of items in the set are required to progress. Once the progression point has been reached then you may purchase the base item of the following set. You do not need to keep the progression items in the previous set once you have the base item.

Set bonus:

While you have the required bonus items, you benefit from the set bonus. If you use or lose items such that you no longer meet the bonus requirements, you do not benefit from the bonus.

Costs and limits:

The Mages of Freetown will only sell one of each item per season per character.
Characters can purchase any number of items.

Characters have to pay both the Arcane Point and the Silver Penny cost. These costs are listed on each item. Items can be sold back for a refund of some of the Arcane Points (listed on each item) and 50% of the SP cost.
