Scribe Notes
I am Duvon Stoneborn. After heeding the call from Elamic (Mother of All, Bringer of Life, Protector of the People) to travel and further myself, I have recently joined the Seagate Adventurers guild and find immediate employment.
My initial notes on my fellow adventurers, all of whom also seem either newly anointed guild members, or at least junior members:
- Moly - Scarred Orc fire mage who likes to hit things with his silvered fists. A follower of some unpronounceable Orc fire god
- Petra - Hobbit necromancer, a disturbing mix of childish demeanor and attire coupled with a fascination with undeath. Might be a few cards short of a deck
- Mattin - Hobbit shadow weaver, keen to pincushion enemies with his rapier
- Tharlin - An air mage and fellow dwarf. I can see why he would leave home
- Roxanne - The only human amongst us. Employs mind magics
Tharlin is elected party leader and I find myself as military leader and scribe
Braegon and Kilroy are our employers. There is an infestation of goblins causing trouble near Rivenheart, specifically in the Mountain Wall area bordering the Gatar Depression. While they would normally be able to deal with such themselves, there is a magical unluck field in effect in the area which is more efficacious the tougher you are and the closer you get to the centre. As such they are unable to approach without fear of a fatal misdemeanor. It seems the field is linked to worship, probably of some goblin god, and is probably related to an artefact. We agree to try and deal with it (destroy, or at least anull) and start preparations.
Braegon and Kilroy will create a diversion to the north of the goblin area, while we will attempt to sneak in to the south. We are warned to avoid prolonged combat with the goblins as they tend to 'swarm'. We are also warned of the presence of a great Raven with a 30ft wingspan who is a familiar of Kilroy. Theoretically on our side but likes eyeballs and shiny things.
Both our employers seem to have great wealth and throw it around for our benefit. Besides our actual pay they also provide:
- A rank 20 Greater Enchantment on all areas
- Many healing bandages
- A temporary gem each that enhances 1 spell by 7 ranks of duration
- 6 Whispering Wind scrolls so that we can send them messages
They also help us get cost price Wicca amulets and Restoratives from Sarah (wife to Kilroy) in Slippery Rock
The party takes some pay in advance to purchase:
- The whole party get an Amulet of Luck and Amulet of Elder Flowers (3500 each for the 2)
- All bar Tharlin get 2 restoratives and 2 guild healing potions (2000 in total per person)
- Tharlin gets 4 restoratives (2000)
We also organise a Linking Lifeforce through a Binder that Tharlin knows (Sprockett)
- Day 1
Many rituals and other preparations
- Day 2
Braegon travels us to Slippery Rock by getting 'lost'. We pick up restoratives and amulets, then portal to Rivenheart. Once there Braegon makes us a secure campsite in a cleft using enormous earth elementals, and provides us with basic supplies. We do an initial scout of the area looking for likely entrances. Though we find various tracks, including those of goblins, we do not find any likely entrances.
- Day 3
More scouting and we come across two old naked goblins sunbathing. Some things cannot be unseen. While attempting to slink quietly away, both myself and Tharlin step onto a shale slope and start sliding slowly downhill, not quietly. Other goblins, some related to the two older ones, are drawn to the sound, but we eventually manage to get clear and hide while things quieten down. We next find another goblin nest, with this one promising to be larger. It has at least 2 crawl space entrances and a large cave entrance that is guarded. Mattin and Petra each sneak down one of the crawl spaces. Petra returns and recounts many small interconnected tunnels, protected at junctures, and finds a way to the guarded entrance before returning. Mattin has a similar story, but also finds a sleeping area, and is unlucky to be noticed. A pursuit ensues but he manages to make it back to the crawl space and out to us, just in advance of his pursuers. We take out the first two to emerge, grabbing one as a prisoner for further questioning. The goblins are starting to swarm as warned from the other crawl space and the cave entrance, so we skulk, misdirect and cover our tracks enough to get clear of the area, eventually winding our way back to camp. During the day we also noted a large storm to the north, probably part of the diversion.
