The Wylan Hills are claimed by the Duchy of Volar, in the Western Marches.
The Wylan Hills are a chain of low rounded mountains that run east-west for around two hundred miles, separating northern Eltrandor and eastern Caledonia in the south, from their northern neighbour Volar. These hills are heavily forested, and rumoured to be full of man-eating bears, intelligent wolves, and vicious starving orcs.
There is only one pass through the hills, Kayt's Pass, which until recently lay bound under a supernatural winter curse, and moreover, heavily taxed enterprising merchants. Since 796WK, the small towns of Larkmoor, and more recently New Charity, have been welcoming to travellers through Kayt's Pass. To the east of the Wylan Hills is the Gap, which is where the Gronc Plains rise rapidly to the entrance of Volar. This alternative route around the Wylan Hills is not recommended, due to the Gronc barbarians and their Drakenburg nomad brethren. In the west, the hills rise into the impassible Caledonian Mountains, and to their north, the far more dangerous Black Forest.
