Maldorum

A small plane believed to be part of the Underrealms.
The entire extent of Maldorum appears to be a single cavern a mile high and some five miles in diameter. Beyond the five mile mark the visibility is lost of impenetrable smoke and ash clouds, and it is not known what (if anything) lies beyond. Inside the cavern the world is a hot ash waste, the light is low and diffused, mana is scarce and difficult to manipulate, and there is a metallic tang in the air.
The plane was visited by Seagate Guild members during the Quest for Lost Dragons and a number of features of the plane have been observed and reported:
- Pyrammid of Skulls
- A 1000 foot high pyramidal pile of heads and skulls, their spirits bound within them and unable to die. Blood wells from the ground beneath the pile sustaining the heads in some way, and the blood then flows towards the Citadel.
- Factories
- Downstream of the Pyramid are weapons factories powered by great paddlewheels turned by the river of blood. They send black smoke into the already polluted air.
- Lake of Blood
- The river flows into a lake surrounding the central Citadel, a half mile wide from the shore to the foot of the pillar.
- Citadel of Iron & Blood
- A mile high pillar forming the central column of Maldorum and reaching to the ceiling that ends the world. Home to the plane's ruler: Malach-Ra (about whom nothing else is known). The pillar has a very high iron content and magic use is even more restricted here than elsewhere on the plane. The exterior of the column is rough with many natural spires and thousands of demonic gargoyle-like beasts nest on its many ledges. Inside the column has been hollowed out to accommodate many rooms, prisons, guard quarters, etc.
- Malboge
- A small city with iron walls; little else known.
- Villages
- The various villages of Maldorum are similar in that all are poorly maintained and in states of disrepair, but exhibit widely varying architectural styles and apparent historical periods giving rise to the hypothesis that they have somehow been pulled into this plane from a variety of times and places.
- Inhabitants
- The human inhabitants of Maldorum appear cruelly oppressed but otherwise relatively normal. The other inhabitants of the plane are similar to demonic beings: sinuous snake-like beasts armed with black bladed swords, and larger bestial warriors. All appear non-magical and highly resistant.
