Ethics of Uriel
Urielite Ethics.
The ethics described below, while fitting the archetypical Urielite, are not followed by all Urielites; nor do only Urielites share these values. Urielites are generally respected for their judgement and wisdom, and often get involved in dispute resolution.
Ethics
The rules have been made to protect people from themselves and others; breaking the rules is frowned upon. Each situation requires interpretation, but exceptions to the rules are uncommon. Hasty actions lead to unwanted consequences. All eternity is available for regret. Responses must be measured and balanced. Process and careful consideration are the keys to good decisions. If something is worth doing, it is worth doing thoroughly and correctly.
Justice
Justice is an examination of the facts, and a meting out of a just and fair punishment. The circumstances of the case, chance of recidivism, deterrence of others, and other matters are all weighed carefully. The victim is not part of the judicial process, except as a witness. Complete impartiality is essential to justice, and all emotion or personal feeling must be put aside. Ideally, each Urielite would make the same ruling for similar cases. Records of previous cases and precedents are to be followed in shaping a judgement. Mercy is something outside the justice process, that can be appealed to independent of a judgement.
Argentum Analysis
Urielites as viewed by a different ethical theory. The primary value embodied by Urielites is Prudence through practical wisdom and fairness. Urielites tend to have good control of their baser desires, showing strong Fortitude, but don't necessarily inspire others to follow their example. They tend not to act until they are certain of their course, but are thorough and competent when they act. As cautious and careful thinkers, they make better advisors than leaders.
