"The official population of Seacroft is significantly higher than the actual population because of a contest between several inhabitants to see who could be counted the most times. The winner is reported to have been counted as over 50 different people."

Is there some basis for this other than Stephen's imagination? Seacroft is one of the few places that hasn't been subject to massive population growth (still listed at the 1300 of the Frontiers Guide). If anywhere needs this sort of reduction it is one of the other towns.

If there is no concrete basis for this statement then I'd prefer it was a rumour or similar.

I thought it an amusing bit of local colour showing disrespect of beaurocrats from the city that seemed appropriate to a town with so many hobbits, adventurers, and their children. Evidently it caught someone else's fancy too.

I've adjusted it to leave the 'real' population as the listed number and converted fact to rumour.

And I'll completly avoid mentioning that Kryan was nowhere to be seen that day and after the census taker left town the beaurocrat was also seen spending his winnings buying rounds in a tavern in Seacroft. Because there was no proof of that either.

I've found one of the original DQ modules, which has details of Seacroft, map of town, inhabitants, layout of a couple of inns etc. It was described as "Located on the southern shore of Confederation Bay and having a very good harbour, the town of Seacroft makes most of its living from traffic and trade on the sea. Commercial traffic by Merchant Ships is not nearly as important as is fishing. Most of the Merchant Chips prefer to dock at Seagate...snip ...The population of 1300 has better than 100 households in the town proper around the harbour with the rest a little more scattered in the immediate vicinity..."

So my question is, with the advent of the new villages in the area, is Seacroft still a harbour town, is the original information still relevant, and if so, would me typing this into the wiki be a Good Thing, or not relevant anymore?

There is quite a bit of guff, so want opinion of those who know these things about current DQ, before I do so. Hannah Jackson 18/6/2012
