Laughing God
Trickster God, Harlequin God.
One of the four old elven gods and brother of Kael. The old gods are worshipped primarily by the Elvandar and banned in most parts of Alfheim, although the strictures against the Laughing God are less severe than those against the other three.
A resurgence is occurring in the province of Ladlaugh where the Laughing God is said to sleep.
Earliest records of the Laughing God go back some 45000 years, but Trickster Gods in one form or another can be traced to the very earliest elven religions and show an unusual degree of consistency in their incarnations. It is quite possible that the Laughing God is the same nameless Trickster that the elves have worshipped, feared, and made offerings to (in the hope of keeping him in good humour) since they were dwellers in the Fae realms.
There are rumours that Venerable-Princess Illyana, the heir-presumptive, is or was a devotee of the Laughing God, and was (in the days of the Old Empire) training as a warrior/dancer in a school dedicated to him.
