+++ CARCOSA +++

Carcosa is a mysterious, ancient, otherworldly, possibly extra-planar, and probably cursed city appearing in multiple occult references.

Fragmentary information from historic sources (Yellow Codex, [XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX] qq.v.) indicates the lake-side city of soaring towers under dark stars and twin suns exists on a nameless, highly magical world far across the Great Dark Beyond or in an alternate reality.

Conflicting sources have however placed it on Alusia or on one of several other known mortal worlds in the distant past.
[Any or all may be true, cf. [XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX] - M.]

Most sources agree that the buildings that comprise the city range in age and style and may have been transported from other worlds across time and space. The reason for these acquisitions is uncertain, but there are suggestions this may be connected to a grand ritual or act of apotheosis of an unnamed power.
[Alternately "nameless power" or MAGNUM INNOMINANDUM. Trans. Common: "Great Not-To-Be-Named One". - M]

Carcosa is strongly connected with the play "The King in Yellow", categorized as a highly dangerous and potentially destabilizing work of art, rumoured to have originated in the city. The play is known for its macabre and unsettling themes and has been linked to a number of strange and unexplained events, including cases of mass hysteria and outbreaks of violence, including the infamous "Yellow Sign" incident of [XXXXXXXXXXXXX].

"The Yellow Sign" should be considered DANGEROUS, and the symbol should NOT be retained in visual form unless suitably warded and contained. The copy of a copy sent to [XXXXXXXX] when requesting this summary has been destroyed.
[Do NOT resend - M.]
