A city in the Viscounty of Nouveau Zumalar, Aladar

Chestyr is an Aladarian city in the Viscounty of Nouveau Zumalar and as of Winter 823wk has a population of around 8,500, with the popn increasing by around 500 per year since 813wk and the destruction of Zumalar City.

History

  1. Chestyr was a town (popn 3500) in the old Viscounty of Zumalar before 797wk - 823wk after the Middle Duchies War;
  2. Chestyr was a town (popn 4500) and in the old County of Zumalar-Baltheim pre 797wk before the Middle Duchies War

The city of Chestyr has changed over the years since 813wk, from being a small town along the inner trade route (The Great Aladar Coast Road) to the thriving port city it is now, after the Drow Invasion and the subsequent geographical upheavals (known as the Drow Invasion Land Eruption or the DILE - see below) in the Ffenargh Swamp and near lands.

Drow Invasion Land Eruption (DILE)

The effects of the various eruptions and changes to the landscape of the Ffenargh and surrounding lands has been vast. Whole areas of the swamp have been wiped out, flooded, inundated, and quaked to change the area forever. A number of the surrounding hills have had major areas sunk into the swamp and the geography changed to a great extent. A lot of the coast and many miles back towards what solid inland has been inundated by the sea change and sunk beneath the new coastal waters. New areas of solid land have accumulated in various locations and cartographers will be busy for some time mapping the new region.

820wk

The coastal changes have settled down and new waterways of a reasonably constant nature have been identified and are being used for trade back into the Western Kingdom. The town of Chestyr has been designated as the new port for the Zumalar region and work has started enlarging the town, creating port facilities etc. New settlers are continuing to be drawn to the town/city with its increasing need for workers and trade opportunities.

821wk

An area of the nearby swamp has been cleared and dredged to clear the new port area. Work has been done expeditiously due to a skilled outside workforce being employed. Some earthworks have been completed to facilitate new roads to and from Chestyr along with a few tunnels to get through the sometimes-difficult terrain.

822wk

Work started on expanding the basic dock area to cater for bigger vessels, transhipment facilities and warehousing. Several channels through the Ffenargh have been dredged to further give opportunity to traverse the swamp.

823wk

By the end of Winter 823wk, some more of the port has been completed with a substantial breakwater competed in record time along with a few good wharves and some of the required facilities on the docks. There is still more work to come with new Graving Docks, shipbuilding facilities, storage areas and much more.

Physical Geography

The walls Encompass the town and they have been in place for centuries now since the town (once a village) was founded on a naturally defensible position above what was the River Deey which then flowed out to sea, many miles away.
