The Barony of Karne is in the east of the Western Marches. It is a human barony, run by a merchant prince. The culture is of traders and wheeler-dealers. The barony's very existence depends on their continued balancing act, playing off their more powerful and aggressive neighbours the Mishrak and Nadrak orcish kingdoms against the human Duchies Volar and DeBourgnac. Their ally and rival in this is the Barony of Halkor. Karne broke away from the corrupt hegemony of Volar during the days of the Silent March.
Its borders are the Trent river to the north, the Crasis spur and Lone Peak to the south, the Alsgart Ranges to the east, and the River Gathering to the west. Woods and hills make up a third of the land. The rest is predominantly poor highland pasture and moor.
