Weird plants of Insel der Freiheit

The big stinkers

We saw these huge big fleshy flower plants, which were as big as people. But they had this awful smell, like rotting dead things. It was very gross. All they seemed to attract were flies and other such bugs. But it was rather odd, the inside of the flower was hollow and filled up with water, which was very sticky and viscous. It seems the flies drink the water, get stuck or just fall in, and then the plant digests them through them rotting in this watery mix. Very odd. I hope they don't get any bigger, animals could fall in and drown.

Water catchers

I saw a range of these. Different colours and shapes but all basically with a cup like catcher which filled up with water. The water seems to smell sweet, and the insects are attracted into the catcher. But there is no-where to land except the sides and they slide off the sides and land into the water. Drowning and sinking to the bottom. The plant maybe related to the stinky flowers as it also seems to thrive on the rotting insect bodies at the bottom of these catchers. Curious.
