Tintagelite Shapeshifting
Return to House Tintagel
At a cost of one EN point (which may be bought back in the usual way), Tintagelites may learn the shapes of a mundane creature no smaller than a mouse and no larger than a bear. Their MA, WP, PC and FT remain unchanged, and PS, MD, AG and EN are always the minimum for the assumed form. Each shape is advanced individually. It takes no time to advance the Rank of a form, but each one can only be advanced a single Rank per adventure or season, whichever is less.
E.g. if the shape Fox is learnt, then the stats are:
| PS: | 4 | MD: | 18 | AG: | 22 | MA: | * | EN: | 5 | FT: | * |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| WP: | * | PC: | * | PB: | 10 | TMR: | 6 | NA: | 1 | ||
- represents the appropriate stat of the shape shifter
So, for every 2 Ranks in Fox, say, the shape shifter increases PS, MD, AG and EN by 1, even if this would take them beyond the maximum for that creature. Some creatures have very high stats, e.g.wolves have very high FT values to represent their stamina. Once they have achieved Rank 10 in a form, they can buy stats for it in excess of the amount they are normally allowed at the normal Experience cost. Creatures do not gain the special combat benefits of high AG unless the description in the Bestiary specifically allows them to.
The shape shifter can use any languages they know in their animal form, but cannot cast (except some Talent magic, perhaps), nor may they use abilities or skills that would require a normal human form. They may Rank the language of their form (for example Fox) at the normal cost (but without any benefit from a trainer) and the maximum Rank is 4.
If the form allows Ranks in natural weapons, then the shape shifter may advance these weapons using the schedule for Unarmed Combat. These Ranks are advanced per weapon per form.
Up to 25 lbs of the shape shifter's gear changes with him, however this must be equipment that they have attuned to over the period of a week or so. Gear that is in part or wholly a living creature will not transform with him. This may be the same for gear that is in part or wholly a living plant depending on the situation.

Calculation of Experience Multiple
The minimum of the form's four physical stats (PS, MD, AG & EN) are summed and multiplied by 5. Add the entries in the table below to this value. Note that if the chosen form is 'Trout', there is no cost for for swimming or water-breathing. On the other hand, since they can breathe water and air, and move around in either medium, then water-breating and swimming must be included if the chosen form is 'Axolotl'.
| Ability | Description | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Small | 75-25lbs | 25 |
| Very Small | 24lbs - mouse size | 50 |
| Large | 200-300 lbs | 25 |
| Very Large | 301-400 lbs | 50 |
| Fast Movement | >5 TMR or 250 movement rate | 25 |
| Extra Fast Movement | >9 TMR or 450 movement rate | 75 |
| Very Fast Movement | >14 TMR or 700 movement rate | 150 |
| Extreme Movement | >19 TMR or 950 movment rate | 300 |
| Flight | 100 | |
| Swimming | Only where it is an additional movement | 50 |
| Climbing | Only where it is an additional movement | 75 |
| Burrowing | Only where it is an additional movement | 150 |
| Stealth | Only if Large or Very Large | 75 |
| Water breathing | 100 | |
| Armour | Prot>0<5 | 25 |
| Greater Armour | Prot >4 | 75 |
| Fang & Claw | Damage Modifier of natural weapon >D10+2 | 25 |
| Sharper Fang & Claw | Damage Modifier of natural weapon >D10+4 | 50 |
| Rankable Natural Weapon | Bought per weapon, x Maximum Rank | 25 |
| Dark Vision | See in up to 95% darkness | 25 |
| Special Abilities | Eagle's eyesight, weasel's immunity to basilisks, echo location, etc. | varies |
The cost of each ability is added up, and this becomes the Experience Multiple of the form.
Example: Eagle
Sum of minimum physical stats: 39 = 195
Very small = 50
Extreme Movement = 300
Flight = 100
Armour = 25
Rankable Natural Weapons (Beak) = 75
Rankable Natural Weapons(Talon) = 50
Keen eyesight = 50
Total = 845
The FT cost to shape shift and stat bonus is reflected in this table:
| Rank | FT cost | Stat |
|---|---|---|
| 0 | 15 | 0 |
| 1 | 15 | +1 |
| 2 | 14 | +1 |
| 3 | 14 | +2 |
| 4 | 12 | +2 |
| 5 | 12 | +3 |
| 6 | 9 | +3 |
| 7 | 9 | +4 |
| 8 | 5 | +4 |
| 9 | 5 | +5 |
| 10 | 0 | +5 |
Note: It costs nothing to return to humanoid form.
The Rank of each form is recorded separately and a stat sheet with current values entered.
When the shape shifter has advanced at least one form to 10, and has a total of 50 Ranks in various shapes, then they are considered a chaos lord in this discipline.
