The Henric Letters

Summer 807

Mum, the others have gone off on adventure without me as I have joined the Carzalan Army as a private in the Militia regiment. It's hard work all the maneuvering, marching and weapons practice but I'm getting better now. We've had several incidents with undead with a few dealings with Goblin bandits and all have turned out well (only smithie got killed - buried near New charity) with me being recognised for bravery and staunchness in the face of the enemy and being promoted to Lance Corporal. Lt Wilford says that I am welcome back whenever I care to return for a season. Anyway I've been hearing things about Mavric and Lyric and I'll see what substance there is to the 'things' and let you know. Anyway love to dad and all the uncles and we'll be back soon enough. Autumn 807

Mum, the work is getting easier these days and I spent the season with Bodric and the girls doing a number of tasks set us by the horse-master of Novadom who works for the ruler of Novadom (but no-one knows who that is as there's the one thats been ruler/prince for years, the one who has unlawfully usurped him and locked the previous one up, there is the church guy who things he's in charge, some mad human woman who reckons she's in charge, and several others who call themselves Prince or ruler or some such title) which were dangerous but we did them with the help of Jonas and an Orc named Kurgoth (who isn't as bad a being as they can be I understand!) and we were rewarded fro our efforts.

Now no doubt you have received my latter about us finding a lost dwarven stronghold and that Body and I are going to make a trading post there and help the poor unwell dwarves there, well if you can see about sending around 10 lads down to help us build a trading post that would be grand, but if not no worry as I'm sure Body and I will do OK and we'll learn yet more skills.

Now Body is becoming a hardened fighter and he's nasty with his mattock, which is great when its pointed at the nasty gobbo's and the like but he still has that second child chip on his shoulder which I'm subtly helping him with and hopefully it will be gone when next he/we come to see you. Mavric is becoming a fine lass with a sneaky streak a mile long and also a great asset in a fight but nowhere near as good as Lyric or 'Bloody Lyric' as she has become known as. She's obviously take after you ma, as she's pure death with her weapon and I'm sure she's got a fearsome reputation amongst any enemies who have survived meeting her :). I'm doing my best to keep an eye on the lasses but they are feisty indeed (who do they take after in that respect ma?) and so it's hard but I'll keep at it.

Anyway this is all for now, Body and I should be contacted either via Novadom where the Horse-master will know where we are or we'll be in the pass between Novadom and Brastor where we'll probably be this Winter and maybe spring depending on what happens.

Winter 807

Mum, the winter has been long and hard with much being done here at our 'trading outpost' by Bodric and I.

We have built a load of things and are quite proud of our accomplishments thus far but acknowledge there is plenty more to do.

I'll write more when I can but for now you and Dad and all the uncle's are in my thoughts and I'll try and get another letter off soon, but my hands are sore from all the building, banging, making and clearing around here.

I'm keeping tabs on Mavric and Lyric and will try and see them soon.

Spring 807

Mum, I'd like to say things have been exciting here, but relatively speaking its been 'normal' with some more trade coming through the pass and staying at our Trading post and getting some fresh supplies in rather than the 'hardy' vegetables and meat we have at present. I've been clearing some ground nearby for an orchard as well as working to dam a small area by the river so that the area fills with water to create a large pond which we can get then get some fish stocked in there for the long term. Moving a lot of rocks for the dam and Jimmy (one of the troops stationed here) is helping to show me about placement for strength and appropriate earthworks to support the dam.
I'm heading up to Seagate before the start of summer to see about some training and organise more supplies for the trading post. I hope to possibly make my way home too.
Can you speak with Uncle Cyrus about Hydro-Mechanics and let me know what he recommends for me to do.

Summer 808

Mum, I have some good news and some bad news. I've been taken on by Lady Liessa, one of the Seagate Adventurers Guild's highest ranked mind mages as her apprentice BUT it means that I can't come home - sorry. It's all very exciting but she's a stern taskmistress and I'll be very busy doing things for her (she's a noble lady too, married to a count no less), getting training in Mind Magic's, accompanying her to her homes in Seagate, Novadom and Newhaven as well as attending court and many other things.
Well I've organised other things for the Trading post and sent them down for Bodric but now I'm off to my first training session (I can hear her yelling for my attendance in my mind) so I'll see you soon.

Autumn 808

Mum, just a quick missive as we're off on a royal walkabout again with my mistress and her husband that is very arduous in all the carriages and palatial estates we visit. Yet more training in magic, social etiquette and mores. My mistress, Countess Liessa has decided to give me yet more training and so I will remain here another season to enhance my abilities 'to provide a firm ability to deal with unruly and unfriendly beings in a fair and even manner or through superior magic if they prove recalcitrant'. The apprenticeship is going well and I'm halfway through learning an awful lot of basics for many spells that are just so, so interesting. Love you all, Henric

Winter 808

Mum, My mistress has been taken up by the elves - ascended to godhood (well that will look good on my resume I'm sure) and now I'm a journeyman Mind Mage. I've been tasked cleaning out some stuff for Goddess Liessa and sorting out sundry affairs. I'll then do some weapons training with my old regiment and see what to do in Spring. Start of a letter - Mum we've all got together again here in Seagate and had a great catchup prior to the guild meeting. We are all going to adventure together again - yeah, as there's some mystery happenings in town and we've been drafted into the Seagate 'Black Watch' for the season.
