Talk:Gods and Powers
Having read through the discussion on the mailing list, I am not completely convinced that people are in agreement here. However, I am not completely convinced that we ever had agreement, or that we ever will get agreement. It hasn't caused too many problems so far, so I am happy to let it ride :) The devil is in the detail as they say, and the line that niggles me is the one:
Some of them however ascended to this existence through no choice of their own and these 'demons' tend to take a more active role in societies and are more selfish than Evil.
I would prefer this to read something like:
The motives of demons are inscrutable to mortals and the methods of some demons are more subtle than others.
The fact that one individual demon ascended through no choice of their own doesn't mean that it is a comment that we want to extend to *all* demons.
As far as I am concerned, the name "demon" gives me a hint that they are not good. The presence of amulets that protect against "demons" and "demonic entities" is a slight clue that they are a threat. Their home plane being the "7th Plane" or "7th Plane of Hell" suggests that they are not altogether pleasant beings. The minions of Demons have always been imps, devils, succubi and the like (not known for their conversational ability, with the possible exception of the succubi). The number of items/abilities that guild members have that aligns "unholy" and "evil" against "holy" and "good" leads me believe that we should keep an eye out for them. Finally, something that feeds on the souls of sentient entities is something that I don't really want to cosy up to.
While there may be demons that are marketing themselves as neutral powers to attract guild members, I know that they have a devious ulterior motive that will become obvious over time....

I have tweaked it a little.

I don't think that choice has any bearing on whether or not they are evil. Who would choose to be flung into Hell? According to all of the brochures, it is a particularly unappealing chunk of real estate, and no amount of renovating is going to improve the price...'Location, location, location...'
On the Nature of the PoD and PoL
The inuse banner is there while I try and merge conflicting edits from this article and attempt to reach a compromise on some points.
Dan's revision of 23rd Nov substantially changed the nature of the article and ignores some established in-game information (of which I'm guessing Dan may not be aware).
