Scribe Notes
- No scribe notes are known to exist from any of the three ships, but I recently found these notes I made regarding the initial meeting of the expedition's members. While that meeting was private some 40 years have now passed, VK has been dead for over 35, most of the other members have retired, the expedition ultimately failed, and so I feel no confidences will be broken. - Mortimer Graves (Autumn 826 WK).

We were gathered by Von Kroft the day after the guild meeting.
He said that none of the applicants had been accepted yet (although as Stravinsky pointed out, the dwarves were on the short list) and any one who wanted to could still pull out.
Von Kroft said that Sabella Torte the Grey Mage had withdrawn her application and that Athos Ironfist, dwarven warrior had decline a place.
Von Kroft went on to say that only humans are common on the Southern Continent, there may be some demi-humans but these are very rare and magic is uncommon.
We were then told that this meeting was private and everyone in the room was sworn to secrecy. Everyone did as far as I know.
<in halfling> except Flytrap
VK then told us that since we did not have a healer capable of resurrection anyone who died at sea would be buried at sea. I offered to provide water breathing for those who wanted to dig the grave, but they all just laughed. Anyway, no-one else withdrew so the door was closed and guarded by James O'Grady, "some sort of weapons freak" quoth Nite Owl.
A list of the expedition members:
- Von Kroft, giant warrior dwarf (about 4'6"), bit too keen on money.
- Dido, Earth Mage dwarf, nice lady, was scared of water, VK's bit of fluff.
- Stuart Stogumber, Enchantments & Ensorcelments, used to be incredibly clumsy, a bit thick.
- Budwizir, dwarf, Hama's brother, though you wouldn't think it to looks at him, seems to be permanently drunk.
- Katria, stuck up dwarven noble, very prim and proper, could be a pain in the neck.
- Morgan Lafayette, celestial navigator, human but looks competent.
- Stravinsky the Historian, seems a real nice guy, possibly an illusionist.
- Rampantly Disorganised, hobbit, celestial, looks confused but may be nice.
- Nite Owl, wood elf, celestial dark, real dim. Hobbies: collecting magical items and blacking out entire town! (Awarded for it)
- Dirk, another dwarf, real weapons and skills master. Someone told me he could use over 30 weapons, gulp!
- Zip, hobbit, very mysterious character, know nothing about him.
- Waldof Eboneyes, elven Air mage, seems nice enough.
- Storm, high and mighty bloody elf, won't even lower himself to speaking common.
- Grunge Bait, idiot fire mage, the sort of human that gives other humans a bad name.
- Slewse Joose, beginning water mage, could turn out to be G.B. II
- Ambar the Healer, human, also pretty handy with a rapier.
- Me, morty, black mage and fearless fighter.
- Flytrap, extraordinary Watermage.
Hurrah a new pen that writes much easier. Maybe my speeling will improve.
Well, the meeting went on for ages with everyone arguing over this contract that Von Kroft was offering. I think that all the contents were the same except for Ambar's though I don't know why.
He is a buddy of VK's I think and owes him heaps, somewhere like 150 grand.
And clause 13 is different on each one cause that's where where your responsibilities is laid out.
I told VK that Flytrap deserved his own contract and share of the treasure but he (VK) said that I was responsible for him (Flytrap) and that he should be treated like a reusable magical item. I said wasn't that slavery but VK got very angry and went puce so I let the matter drop.
Finally the meeting closed after everyone had got what VK wanted, and we went our separate way to get ready for the journey.
2/2/1986 AP - 2/3/1986 AP
We had 4 weeks before sailing date so I spent the time working on my spells.
Wind Whistle (cause we might need a wind), Fear (cause it's icky), Darkness (cause it's neat), Mind Cloak (cause people pry), Hypnotism (cause I found out something Ariel used to do with it), and Call Master (for emergencies).
Ariel was a Black Mage at the guild who died before I joined, she got hit lots by an earth elemental, who it seems everyone really liked lots, her Master was Vapula, who is not a bad sort, so I guess it is possible for these people to like a Black Mage, then there's hope yet.
I was quite worried that if I died, VK wouldn't send my stuff to Mum & Dad but Ambar came up with a solution.
Will
I, Mortimer Graves, hobbit adventurer, adept of the College of Black Magics and undersigned, do hereby declare this document to be my last will and testament, and being of sound and free mind, request that my estate be distributed as follows:
- Any non-cash items of worth are to be converted to cash, preferably by auction at the Guild, so that they may be of some use to adventurers.
- The total of cash is to be split in half, one half going to my parents, presently residing in Lewiston, Brastor Holdings, and the other half going to the orphanage in Seagate, presently run by the Earth Mage Yazmo, and the Handsome Stranger. If this institution is defunct or discredited at the time of the reading then the money is to go to a charitable institution as chosen by the elven adventurer Wilkinson, failing her as chosen by the guild council, excluding Wegan, who I've never liked.
I name as my executor, my Lord Marciosias. Let none cross his wrath. (Ta, Ambar).
Dated this day, 5/2/1986 after Panjari - Mortimer Graves.

Sailing Day
As we threw off mooring ropes and began to get underway a small figure was observed racing down the Seagate docks waving some document in the air and calling for us to wait.
One of the ships paused and pulled aboard a red-faced young halfling who was clutching what turned out to be a Namer College graduation certificate with the ink still wet.
It was in this way that Mary-M joined the expedition and VK was happy to have gained a Namer. This is until as we left harbour and he enquired as to her skill in Divination.
Mary-M: Diviniation? What's that? Oh.. is that a Special?
End Note
VK's expedition never got to the Southern Continent, fact I don't think it exists and the trip was real boring.
