Traditionally Cypresses are guardians of boundaries.
Members of Cupressaceae family are symbols of death, grieving, liminal spaces and since these are evergreen, they symbolise immortality and the afterlife. Their typically upright growth habit connects the earth to the sky, and they’re commonly planted on the borders of cemeteries.
