Sanctuary Country Estates

There are a number of country estates within a couple of miles of Sanctuary. These estates provide a quiet retreat and haven from the cut and thrust of commerce, and enable the rich to entertain on a lavish scale. Many of the estates have small villages around them, as the villas employ many staff; others use slaves, and prefer isolation for security. Having an estate is a step up from living in Uptown, but most people will also keep a "townhouse", in Uptown or the Jeweller's Quarter, for day to day business affairs.

Places of Note & their Owners

• Land's End - base of the Rankene opposition. Owned by Lowan Vigeles, half-brother to Molin Torchholder, father of Chenaya, and leader of a faction of rebellious Rankenes in exile. Land's End is on a coastal headland to the north-west of the city. Land's End was home to a number of Gladiators until they attended the Coronation of Meredithis in Ranke, summer 807. A number of great Gladiators trained and lived at the estate. Other notables at the estate include a gardener/slave called Chanos who is rumoured to be a Greater Summoner.
• The Circus, an estate famed for its wild parties and varied guest list - people from all walks of life run shoulders there - all you need is money and a desire to party hard. Owned by Jubal, an Azurian slaver and criminal mastermind, but run by one of his mistresses. Near a village to the north of the city
• The Lily Pad - named after Bakarat's cognomen, and the rumoured source of many of his staff (the Lily Garden), this estate is the retreat for Bakarat and his statuesque wife Jharn, though usually not at the same time. This hill-top manse is inland from Sanctuary.
• Alden Estate - this estate is between the city and the White Foal river. It is home to Aristo and his close family, and always has an anti-scrying haze over the main house. The house is in deep mourning following the loss of the oldest three siblings in unrelated tragic accidents on the 14th Meadow, 806WK. Current head of the house is the eldest living daughter Jaelle, currently at finishing school in Alfheim.
