Marbas first appears as a tawny lion with a black mane and bloody muzzle, but this form is insubstantial, and he will adopt the guise of a golden-skinned man with a shock of black hair.
He has the power to inflict on men rotting diseases by the merest touch. He also may change the shape of men by his touch so that they become as wolves or bears. He has knowledge of many of the secrets of the universe.
Marbas is a speaker of truth and will never speak untruths. He knows many True Names, particularly of those who are wealthy and famous.
