Labruguierre is an important city at the confluence of the Irtish River which runs from the north, and the Rapalyt River which flows from the south coming down from the xxx Lakes atop the xxx Plateau.

The river as it passes the city is around 300ft wide before it narrows and follows the last of the Irtish river out to sea in the Bay of Rankene. The city has a harbour at its base which is busy with the river trade from both directions and is also big enough for well-piloted ocean-going ships to leave fully laden when demanded.

Labruguierre is a walled city full of granaries and warehouses from the fruitful agricultural areas surrounding it.

Labruguierre is an important city at the confluence of the Irtish River which runs from the north, and the Rapalyt River which flows from the south. It is a walled city full of granaries and warehouses from the fruitful agricultural areas surrounding it. The river as it passes the city is around 300ft wide before it narrows and follows the last 20m of the Irtish river out to sea in the Dar Bay. The city has a harbour at its base which is busy with the river trade from both directions and is also big enough for well piloted ocean-going ships to leave fully laden when demanded. The city is built on raised banks where the two rivers meet and is thus above the flooding which sometimes occurs along the rivers. The docks have been built using wood and an ingenious way of connecting to large piles set in the riverbed which allows the docks to rise and fall with the flow. In the centre of the city is fountain which delivers pure water from the aquifer deep below the lands. It is reputed to have healing properties but that have yet to be substantiated. A distillery near the square makes a brew called Gorzaka or burning water for which it does a great amount of trade. The City is ruled by the Viscount de Labruguierre, Pytor de Lautrec (b768, d-) who rules the area well with good land management practices and reasonable trade policies.

People of Note

  • Viscount Pytor de Lautrec - Viscount de Labruguierre. Born 768. A capable, pragmatic ruler known for good land management, fair grain policies, and keeping river trade flowing. He is respected rather than loved, but most citizens agree the city prospers under him.
  • Viscountess Mirelle de Lautrec - Consort and patron of civic works. Elegant, politically observant, and deeply involved in charitable waterworks and temple patronage. Quietly protects the reputation of the aquifer fountain.
  • Lord Armand de Lautrec, the Heir apparent - A disciplined but somewhat severe young noble, more interested in military readiness than commerce. Some merchants fear he would tighten controls if he inherited soon.
  • Lady Celiane de Lautrec - Younger noble daughter. Intelligent, diplomatic, and popular with guild families. She is often used as the family’s “soft hand” in delicate negotiations.
  • Sir Odran Valcieux - Castellan of the Viscount’s Manor. Veteran knight responsible for the palace guard, household discipline, and emergency defence planning. Dry, loyal, and difficult to deceive.
  • Maître (Sir) Julien Ferroux - Viscount’s steward. Manages rents, granary audits, rural obligations, and the Viscount’s estate accounts. He knows exactly who is lying about harvest yields.
  • Lady Ysabet Ronceval - Court adviser. A widow from a minor noble house, skilled in correspondence and gossip. She maintains the Viscount’s network of local sources.
  • Father Emeric Chastel - Confessor to the Viscount. He is calm, patient, and more politically aware than he admits. He often mediates between the manor and the Temple of the Grain Mother.
