Kailua Kona
The inhabited island of Kailua Kona is located 150 km ENE of Atiu. This island consists of two volcanic peaks, currently dormant, called Manua Loa and Kilauea. An active lava lake is located in the vent of Manua Loa and occasionally the mountain erupts, spilling lava down the slopes. Both volcanoes are sacred to Pele and a temple to Pele is located halfway up Manua Loa. The inhabitants are more warlike and visitors are advised to approach with caution.
Update as at Summer 813: Both volcanos are currently active sending up columns of ash. The lava lake in Manua Loa has grown a cinder cone and is bubbling but not violently enough to overflow the rim of the crater. Somehow, a continuous wind is blowing the ash harmlessly out to sea. The inhabitants are taking this as an omen of things to come.
