Gabrielite Ritual of Consecration

Duration: 1 hour (+1/Rank)
Area of Effect: 5 hexes + 1/Rank
Experience Multiple: 200
Base Chance: WP + 3/Rank
Resist: None
Target: Area, Entity
Cast Time: 1 hour

Actions: The Priest chants & paces the area while swinging a thurible.
Materials: The thurible will burn herbs and incense worth at least 500sp (for an area) or 100sp (for an entity), or some more significant personal sacrifice when appropriate.

Area Effects: This ritual can consecrate ground to the Powers of Light. The ritual can fortify a devout person against undead, other Powers, and their minions. This religious rite may be treated as a non-college Special Ritual. It may not be performed if the Priest is in serious breach of their duties. If the ritual is successful, the area is merely "consecrated ground," not a volume, and only affects entities in contact with it. This consecration will be broken if a Devout violates their oath, or an act of gross evil (e.g. an alien religious ritual) occurs.

Magic Resistance Entities in contact with the consecrated ground accrue a bonus to Magic Resistance. This does not stack with magical bonuses to M.R. (e.g. items, Counterspells, Purification), other than Greater Enchantment; the greatest effect, at any particular instant, applies:
  • Devout +10 (+3/Rank)
  • Faithful +10 (+2/Rank)
  • Innocents +10 (+1/Rank)
Protection from Undead and Alien Powers Devout are treated as if a Consecration Ritual of Rank/2 had been cast on them. Faithful are treated as if a Consecration Ritual of Rank/3 had been cast on them.
Protection from Necromancy Any Necromancer standing on, or attempting to affect, consecrated ground suffers a cast chance penalty of -[10 +2/Rank]%.

Entity Effects: The target becomes blessed against certain abilities & side effects of any undead, Alien Powers, Avatars of such powers, or minions of powers (or of their pacted servants) that are also beings of mana. This does not include normal agents – a distinction between the inherently evil and the (in)voluntary tools of evil. These various benefits do not stack with any magical bonuses, other than Greater Enchantment; the greatest effect, at any particular instant, applies.

Fear The Blessed gains a 5% (+3 / Rank) bonus to any Willpower check to resist fear effects caused by the above.
Infection The Blessed reduces their chance of becoming infected from damage inflicted by the above 5% (+ 1 / Rank).
Unholy Damage Damage to the Blessed directly caused by the physical or magical actions of the above is reduced by 1+1 per 4 (or fraction) Ranks.
Glamour If the Adept is the target, his body glows faintly, especially at/about the extremities of head, hands, and feet; this light is much stronger when standing on Holy or Consecrated ground. At rank 10 an idiosyncratic visual, auditory, or olfactory glamour will also manifest.

Holy Water: The ritual may be used to create Holy Water which if drunk will bestow the above Entity effects upon the imbiber for 1 hour. If poured on unholy creatures, it will will cause 1 (+1/2 ranks) damage in a similar effect to Greek Fire. It takes 2 full days to create a potion of Holy Water in this fashion.
