Dragon Isles
Group of islands several hundred miles to the north west of Kinlu. Situated just south of the equator this group consist of one central island, and a number of smaller islands totalling around 40,000 square miles.
The name is also sometimes applied informally to the full chain of islands stretching from the southern coast of eastern Alusia down towards Kinlu.
Settled by survivors of the disaster that claimed Fabled Erelhei, the magically powerful elven ruling class are supported by a substantial slave population. The rulers style themselves Tar-eldar [Cmn. High-elves] although they are closely related to the Erelheine of Kinlu from whom they split some 1800 years ago, but retaining the light skin tones of their elven ancestors. They are magically powerful, cruel and capricious, believe themselves the only surviving true descendants of the ancient elves, and see other races as little more than animals.
Huge, many-storied ships of fantastic visage, powered by arcane magics, sails, and the oars of slave rowers sail from the Dragon Isles to attack and pillage neighbouring islands, the far eastern end of the Alusian continent and any vessel unfortunate enough to cross their path, with riches and captives being taken back to support their decadent society.
The area of the Dragon Isles itself is little known to outsiders and the ruling class do not encourage visitors. Those who arrive at the islands uninvited are likely to find their stay either fatally brief or unpleasantly permanent.
Some easterners and Erelheine do trade with the Dragon Isles, such trade being high risk-high return as the rulers are known to pay well for interesting artifacts and certain narcotics and luxury items. However it is not unknown for them to also simply seize cargoes, destroy ships and enslave crews, particularly when dealing with humans, and eastern merchants tend to deal through elven intermediaries.
