The College of Wisdom is located a mile east of Redwood, on the coast. Chub's Bay is the position of 67 great stones, the Obelisks of Insight. The Obelisks are said to share unpredictable yet often illuminating wisdom. To the east, lightly wooded terrain gives way to forest a mile from the college. The villas of important staff members lie to the south.

The ten-twenty full time staff live at the college. Fifteen more live in Redwood use the college wagon to commute daily. The college houses up to forty-five students who also contribute labour to the college.

It is run by the dean and a council. Each New Year's, new students turn up at the college hoping to be selected for sponsorship. Promising students are occassionally taken on by Masters as apprentices. Some of them wait at the college for many years, looking for a place, since they are welcome to study without sponsorship. It is funded by a large bequest from a mystery source.

Students are encoraged to explore their inner selves being to find wisdom and enlightenment. Many students become mages.

The college library has copies of many rare books. Some say that these have been translated from originals.
