Vannes
Vannes is a major town on the banks of the Baratary River, within the Barony of Lotharia in Bowcourt. One of the oldest towns in Bowcourt it has for centuries been a major trade point between the realms, situated as it is on the banks of the river that flows from the high mountains to the north down to the sea.
The Baron of Lotharia is ‘Waroch Cesar Helleu’ who is the latest Helleu to hold the barony for his family and on behalf of the Marquessa of Bowcourt.
The town is known for its grand Chateau’s which belong to some notable families of Bowcourt as well as several churches ancient and new. A number of large towers lining the riverbanks hark back to the ancient times when bandits roamed freely and river traffic was threatened constantly but these are now mostly solid donjons surrounded by manor houses and other more civilised buildings. The Château de Lagarde is the Baronial Manor and sits on a small hill in centre of the town.
The town proper has a number of gates along its walls such as Gate de Fleuve, Porte Calmort, Porte Prison, Porte Potyrne, Porte Saint-Jean and Porte Saint-Vincent. The town has extensive river-docks due to the volume of commerce passing by and large warehouses line the wharves.
Vannes is famous for its glass-smiths, especially cobalt blue coloured glass known as "the blue from Vannes"
