Sign up problems
Seems that new users cant log in. The interface only allows for password reminders and existing users logging in. Anyone know what's going on?

Yes you need to talk to Stephen Martin to gain a new account as of wiki spam.
--Jono Bean 00:52, 8 Mar 2006 (NZDT)
An existing user (possibly Site Admins only) needs to be logged in and then go to the Special Pages / Create User/Login page and create the new user login.
If standard users can't create accounts then email me the user name and email address and I'll create it for you.

Top of Main Page
(earlier discussion removed as point resolved) Cool idea with the 'Wanted Pages'. Little tweak, is it possible for an admin to add a sentence to the top of the Special page 'Wanted Pages', as it's confusing until you realise what it is. Something like 'This is the list of pages that have been referenced from other pages, but which don't exist yet'.
If this can't be done, I'll add it to the text on Main Page.--Errol 15:48, 10 Aug 2006 (NZST)
As far as I can tell it cannot be done. Mandos 12:47, 11 Aug 2006 (NZST)
Anything _can_ be done. :-) Text can be added to special pages, or new special pages added... but only with direct access (ftp?).

Removed Jim's Immortals player request - assuming now no longer needed. Martin Dickson 17:23, 14 Jan 2008 (NZDT)
Nah, still need 2 or more medium level players for an adventure I predict to be about 4 games long. The request is on the sign-up page. Jim
TimeZone
Is the clock on the server on the other side of the planet? Greg Graydon
No, but it probably thinks that you are. The server works in GMT and translates edit times etc into the local time zone of the logged in user.
If you go into Preferences, there is a section called Time Zone where you can specify your offset from the server. The Fill In From Browser button usually works or just put 12:00 in the field, then save.

It does too, well, well, well, three holes in the ground. Ta. Greg Graydon 8 Sept 2006 13:48 Local Time :-)
Search function
It appears there is a 4 character minimum for the search function to work. Is there a way to reduce this? As currently terms such as elf, Uzi or Ty dont work. I suppose i should have picked longer names for my characters... but it might be useful for other short terms too.
EDIT: i just noticed the Go button seems to work with some 3 letter words, but i mean the Search button of the Search function.
It is a limit, presumably to stop people stressing out the Wikipedia servers by doing searches with thousands of results. Or to reduce the number of search index entries.
This was the setting that changes it to 3 $wgDBminWordLen = 3; # Search Minimum Word Length
But it doesn't seem to work, I suspect the setting may have changed between versions.
If you find the correct setting let me know and I'll apply it, otherwise I'll have a further look when I get more time (and inclination), it could be a while.

Pretty Pictures
Can someone figure out a way to link a image to a page (other than the graphic page)? I want to link an image of people to the guild meeting page.
--Jono Bean 16:13, 26 Jun 2007 (NZST)
Wouldn't a link to say the Wikipedia Page for Auckland be more useful than a map link? Also, on the reasonably low-spec graphics at my work, the masses of icons are at best additional blobs, and at the worst more visual clutter on an already-large page. --Errol 17:34, 26 Jun 2007 (NZST)
This is the Help Page on creating images that link to wiki pages. I've applied the basic solution to the Scribe Notes image, it gets a bit tidier if you use one of the templates.
IMO it's more effort than it's worth as a standard navigation thing. Perhaps reserve it for a few specific uses.
