Spica is an Aventi, an aquatic human. which is a human. She lives in a settlement called Sanctuary which is located at the north west end of the Coral Sea, just south of the abyssal trench that separates the Zeyland Plateau from the Pasifikan Plateau. She is only five and a half feet tall, has long white hair and sea blue eyes. She also wears spectacles to enhance her sight. She is also an Arch Mage which means she possesses spells from many different Colleges, and is not bound by College restrictions. She is in charge of the local Academy.

She lives with her wife, Vydia, a mermaid with long dark hair and a purple tail, who is currently the mayor of Sanctuary and Sanctuary's ambassador to the mer-kingdom. With them are their two daughters, Melody and Harmony. Melody was born as an Aventi while Harmony was born a mermaid. Both Vydia and Harmony are Sirens, i.e. merfolk bards and troubadours while Melody is learning to be an Arch Mage in her own right.

No one is sure what created the Aventi. Did they used to be humans captured by Aboliths to be used for slaves are are they the descendants of a desperate attempt to survive a sinking landmass. In some places Aventi are known as Gillmen or Azaketi.
