<div >__NOTOC__</div>Eastdale County is part of the Duchy [[Volar]]. It is an area of around 60 miles by 40 miles in the far east of the [[Western Marches]]. It is the most lightly populated of the Volar Counties, due to mass hallucinations and heretical hysteria a few years ago, and subsequent loss of life and property. The area is now very strongly religious, with emphasis on the ArchAngel Raphael. Its boundaries are the southern [[Alsgart Ranges]] to the east, the Crasis spur to the north, the Teeth to the south, and the northern Amadu river to the west.

===Religion===
Eastdale is fervently religious, worshipping all the [[Powers of Light]], particularly [[Raphael]]. This is partially in reaction to the forced conversion of most people to an indigenous religion in 801WK, and partially due to the significant support provided by church organisations, such as the [[Convent of Lost Souls]], in the rebuilding after the spiritual occupation. This trend towards greater religious conviction runs counter to the general trends of [[Volar#Religion|Volari religion]]. It also has fostered a communal spirit of caring and tolerance, and a flowering of interest in literacy, education, understand, and magic. This religious renaissance is led by Bishop Jerome of [[Lilburn]] and Abbess Beatrice of the nearby [[Convent of Lost Souls|convent].

==History==
Eastdale was first settled around 400 years ago, as part of the establishment of the Duchy Volar. There were a few native villages but they were integrated, leaving only odd circles of standing stones behind. Eastdale was sheltered and defensible, and was the original heartland of Volar, before the barbarians and orcs were pushed into the hinterlands. After this, Eastdale became a peaceful backwater, producing hard-working farmers rather than mighty warriors
===Recent History===
In the winter of 801WK, a mass hysteria overcame the staid province, leading to the destruction of most of the villages and many deaths. For two months, Mother Church was rejected in favour of renewed worship of the heathen gods of the indigenous peoples. The Days of Chaos were finally put down by the advent of a sufficient force of Michaeline knights, led by the spirit of [[St Ernst]].
