County Volar is the home county of the Duchy of Volar. It is an area of around 40 miles by 40 miles in the mid-east of the Western Marches. It is the most civilised area of the Western Marches, and acts as a setting for the largest and most important city in the region, Volar_City. The area has a slightly teutonic flavour, due to most of the early setllers being Aquilan. Its neighbours are Eastdale County, Leodara County, Aveice County, and the independant baronis of Halkor and Karne.

History

County Volar was first settled around 400 years ago, as part of the establishment of the Duchy Volar. There were a few native villages and orcish squats, but they were cleansed. As the original settlers cleared and settled the area, they moved from their original corner of Eastdale County, and drove the barbarians and orcs back into the hinterlands. Since then, apart from the northern rebellion, Volar has been the cohesive centre of Western Marches civilisation and culture.
