The natural lighting part of the Celestial Lighting Table very nearly matches the descriptions for standard luminescence, with a simple (log) pattern. The light level for various artificial light was rather optimistic (that is, the artificial lighting was rated much higher than equivalent natural light), but still near enough. This table brings the natural and artificial descriptions in line with each other, and with 'science' (for what that's worth), while barely changing anything for the Celestials. It's probably not worth proposing as a rule change (even if desirable), but its such an elegant near-pattern that I had to throw it up on the Wiki. To avoid this being accidentally used by players of Celestial Adepts, I deliberately refrained from adding the various Branch casting modifiers to the table.

As an aside, we still don't have good casting modifiers for Shadow and Star mages. ;(

It was merely an observation that the Light/Dark percentages (nearly) match a standard mathematical pattern, on the surface by chance, but perhaps more interestingly due to second-order effects relating to the phenomenology behind how we grade exponential changes in brightness as if they were linear (except at the extremes of our vision), which is just plain cool. --Andreww 03:01, 27 December 2009 (UTC)
