Memories

  • Arguing with a 10' black robed greater summoner, whilst standing inside a blue flaming pentacle.
  • The terms of the binding were hotly contested - "We don't do Knights". The party also claimed that they didn't do nights, shape-changing, invisibility, flying, or wishes. Somehow they managed them all in the end.
  • "I think that we are Faerie while on this plane" "No we aren't" "Well I'm a bloody Faerie" "I've always had my doubts about you..."
  • Eventually, the party identified themselves - Skippy, Sulky, Stealthy, Sneaky, Saunter, Sashay and Clank.
  • The party refused to go outside the strictures of their Geas, not because they couldn't, but to fool the Greater Summoner into thinking that they couldn't.
  • Being Tricksy (particularly T.D.H. & Phillip).
  • Footprints in the butter.
  • The party dodging and hiding from cows.
  • Quartering the village, collecting every single saucer of milk to catch some Pixies, then drinking most of it.
  • Phillip skipping, but only when the party wasn't around.
  • When the answers to five riddles said they had to capture the five most powerful faeries, they worked very hard to justify different answers - wine, bread, music, a stole and mistletoe.
  • Wondering if they could pass off a snail as the King of the Faeries, and would Lady Elspeth mind?
  • Jhiselle completing a Test of Will by raw Fire - except when she was a sparrow and there was this 200lb cat...
  • T.D.H. trying to get a Unicorn to recognise its theme tune, and only succeeding in driving it off.
  • Gustav capturing a 36 hand warhorse, painfully convincing it he was in control, and then deciding it wasn't his.
  • Learning what an Elf is really like - pointy ears, pointy teeth, tortures small animals...
  • The party's absolute and total lack of sympathy for Sabbath's terrible injuries at the hands of the Elves.
  • Kishwa & Drovar arguing over who got to heal which of Sabbath's 21 Specifically Grevious injuries.
  • Sabbath capturing and interrogating himself as a concussed Hobbit.
  • Gustav fighting a 12' Trueper's son to an honourable draw.
  • When making up a ritual, at 11:55pm on the night of the Full Moon, while holding hands praying to their Faerie Godmother, in a hill-top faerie ring, holding magical Rowan sprigs, they remember that (a) these are the instructions they were told for getting home; and (b) they had to leave on a Full Moon, not a New Moon.
  • The party never quite understood:
    • How the dragon killed by St Cadmus is now several Hugh-men.
    • The difference between badjas (purple/brown, small, timid) and badgers (black/white, big, vicious).
    • The trees that go "Mmmmmm".

Theme Song

I was never sure
of the accurate score
I was summoned on a quest for the Ice Queen
One day I'd win,
and the next I'd lose
I was summoned on a quest for the Ice Queen
I didn't play fair,
I was beyond care
The stakes were getting high
She starting steaming
when I was scheming
I thought I'd just go along for the ride

Riddles

For a wedding gift
I ask you to bring me that
which has neither top nor bottom,
but which will hold my flesh and blood,
heart, mind and soul for all eternity

The Cornuein beast is wonderous to behold
pretty as a picture, its gule bends men's mind
A single horn in its forehead, white as ice
twisted as the foul mazes through which it thinks
Its only weakness, love of its reflection
and of its opposite, diametrically
opposed forces armed with love and peace of mind.
No higher proof of purity, Heart and Mind
than to lead to one's love a tamed Cornuein.

The following things were loose in the Forest and had to be found
("oh, and bring me the King of the Faeries"):

One of full-moon face and pearly hue,
of pure root and tormented body,
who was pinched and stretched,
imprisoned and released,
drowned until he made air to breath,
then pushed into the fire
after he had been slapped.

Though not an ox, the second has horns to use
While totally spineless, he risks death each day.
He can't leaves the castle he defends, but
wherever he goes he leaves silver behind.

The reverse of a fortnight's days,
the extremes of eleven;
United you'll certainly find
a woman six husbands in seven
would gladly see laid in the grave.

His back is bare, his belly thin,
his guts are all without their skin.
He's often scraped, though well renowned;
His voice it is a soothing sound.
Four teeth he has but lacks a tongue
Yet when he speaks, cheers old and young

In sluggish stream she flowed from riven stone
as fire broke up the rock, and flame applied
the unleashed ardour of the furnace heat.
Her form capricious now is clear as ice,
She's warmed many men on a winter's morn,
Her waist girdled by their fingers and thumb
But she befouls their minds, the while she lays
Sweet kisses on their lips that pressure close,
And urge their tott'ring footsteps to a fall.

The Rustling Rock of Peo

Sabbath wanted a write-up for his "magic rock".

This dark blue-grey rock weighs 8 oz, and due to its balance, has +2% to hit when used as a thrown weapon. It also has the following properties:
Weather Prediction
When cleaned and hung from an oak tree by a single piece of twine, it will accurately predict weather.
If the rock has snow on it, it is snowing. If the rock is wet, it is raining. If the rock is warm, the sun is shining. More subtle interpretations of the rock may be gained with time - for example, observation of its kinesis may give information on the strength & direction of the wind. If a person with a weather prediction ability uses the rock, they may apply all the subtlety of their skill to its interpretation.
Rustling
If this rock is thrown into a bush, long grass, or other dense foliage, it will emit a distracting "rustle" as it lands. This will confuse many listeners, though the rock will not turn itself invisible while flying, and thus alert watchers may be suspicious.
Aura
This rock has no apparent aura. DA, DE & Divination will show it as non-magical (unless other magic is cast upon it). It is from the Forests of Peo on the Plane of Albion.
Defences
It has a defence of 45 (5 for moving, 40 for size) while moving, and 0 (including prone penalty) while stationary. It has a Magic Resistance of 1%, and does not purify.
Domestication
This is a wild rock. It is not trainable, nor may it be domesticated, except by a Beastmaster specialising in Rocks.
