Note that this Astrology information is distinct from the Aspects that characters get during Character Generation and is presented for GM's interest and as a means of creating Alusian astrology readings should GMs so wish.

The celestial bodies and the forces associated with them have a powerful effect on the lives of the characters in the DQ world. The date and time of a characters birth is extremely important as at this time the forces that are in ascendancy will have a permanent effect, that will help shape the character's life and personality in the years to come.

Celestial Bodies

There are eight celestial bodies associated with Alusia: the sun and moon, five commonly visible planets, and one occasionally visible planet.

Expert opinions differ as to the layout of these bodies; certain ancient treatises favour a helio-centric system, with Alusia as another planet, whilst many modern philosophers tend to a geo-centric view.

Irrespective of which, if either, is correct, the other bodies in the system have close association with the most potent of the forces that shape life on Alusia. Each body has many names given it by various cultures. Within Western Alusia although the names vary they are generally derivative of the names used by the Northlanders and are ultimately Dwarven in origin.

The celestial bodies are listed below, in ancient order, along with their forces (and reverses), elements and various materials associated with them. The first name given is that in standard usage in the Common tongue, followed by the names used by the Nordlanders, Dwarves and Elves. Most of the common names are derived from the Dwarven via the Norden languages.
