Tartan Pass

This pass between the two mountain ranges of the Forden Mountains to the west and the Sardream Hills to the East is around 15 miles in length (South-North) but the nature of the terrain makes it treacherous at times and damned dangerous at others

In the south of the pass where the gaps between the mountains is only a mile across, travellers will have to pass through the Derbent Gates which are part of the as yet unfinished Gyges Fortress that was commissioned in 809WK by Duke Baltmond Alagaad of Aladar but is only ¾ finished to date (Spring 812WK).

Once into the actual pass it widens out to an average of 4 miles across before narrowing again in the north to 1 mile across.

The pass has a good quality road through it but the vagaries of the weather mean that it often takes more than one day to pass through as snow and ice impede progress in the winter/spring months along with snow melt and such conditions.

In the north of the pass are the Gates of Haydron which are part of the large partially built walls that will seal the pass once completed. The gates themselves are finished but parts of the walls are not yet built to their full height or finished uniformly.
