Sanctuary Fishtown

The cluster of nets, floats, and shacks that form Fishtown have existed in some form since the first settlement of humans here. The fisherfolk claim to pre-date the Ilsigi arrival, and certainly they keep themselves apart from the rest of Sanctuary. While they claim to make their living purely from selling the fish they catch, their incomparable knowledge of the local currents, shoals and bays means they are in an ideal position to smuggle goods in and out of Sanctuary under the noses of custom officials. They are a close-mouthed lot, and are rarely caught doing anything actually illegal. Foreigners (including Ilsigi and Rankene) aren't welcome in Fishtown after dark.

Places

  • The Hard – Most of the gossip and all the action happens on the Hard, the stretch of wharf between Fishtown and the harbour. Nets are repaired, fish gutted, and boats repaired here.
  • The Rotting Octopus – If you have to go looking for fishermen after dark, you'll find them here. They'll be drunk and vicious. Don't turn your back.

People

  • Monkel – the young chieftain of Setmur, one of the fishing clans.
  • The Old Man – the best and wisest fisherman ever – just ask him!
  • Terci – a leader of clan Crami, one of the fishing clans.

Law

The Third Command is responsible for keeping peace. However, if foreigners start trouble in Fishtown, they will become bait. The locals tend to sort out their own, only occasionally handing over a troublemaker who has caused too much trouble in other districts.
