These are the usage instructions for Mandos Charactersheet.

The instruction below are a work in progress, please add or edit any tricks, tips, or hints you have found useful while using the sheet in order to help other users.

Usage

A number of people have asked what pages should be printed and how they are used once you have them.

The basis for the layout is that the only sheet you should need to write on is the Loadout. Between the character and Loadout pages you have most of what you need easily available in a combat. The Skills and spells sheet should contain enough info that you will generally not have to look to the rules for details on how to use your abilities.

The pages to Print are (paper orientation)

  • Character
  • Loadout
  • Spells (if a mage) (Landscape)
  • Equipment
  • Skills (Landscape)
  • Ranking (Landscape)

I generally have the Character Page as the first in a folder with the Loadout page floating free as it is the one page designed fro scribbling on. The other pages fit into the folder depending on the importance to the character, so Dramus has Spells as his next pages while Tussock has her skills.

Mods

The sheets have also been designed so that there is space for mods that you may need to make for older characters. For example if the character doesn't have a large number of weapons you can use the Weapons section on the Character Page to fit Quick reference sheets for common spells, simple lists of skills and their ranks without the detail available on the other sheets, or even a picture of the character, coats of arms or other decoration.

Mandos Mods

These are mods that I can easily send to you to slot onto the character-sheet.

Real money

I like my characters to know what kind of coin they are spending, so I have the money section done so that it can track TSG, GS and SP rather than a straight SP total. Not really useful but I think it adds a little flavour to know what the character is spending and to know what change they have.

Starting

New Characters

New characters are the easiest to add to the spreadsheet as they have no non-standard stuff to cause problems. The charactersheet includes a character generation page to ensure that character generation is as easy as possible.

Below are the steps to get a brand new character up and running. While it looks like a lot of work, I have broken down a number of steps that you will be able to complete very quickly.

  1. Select the Character Gen Page.
    1. Select the race you have chosen/rolled for your character. This sets the racial mods so you can see what your final stats will be.
    2. Use the drop-down menu to select the roll you made for your stats. If you selected the 91 points option simply leave the menu as "Selected".
    3. Enter in your stats in the yellow shaded fields. The total remaining will update as you enter in the points as will the 'Starting Stats' column which displays your actual starting stats after racial mods.
    4. There are three language options as part of character generation. Select your choice from the 'Select Language Option'. This will populate fields below this where you may select your languages.
    5. Mages and non-mages have different ranking options to start. Use the drop down menu to select whether you are a mage or not.
    6. The next selection assists you with your adventuring skills ranking. Simply edit the yellow designated fields to select what rank you wish the adventuring skill to go to. The total to the right of Horsemanship will show how much EP you have left, or if you have overspent.
    7. Spend your mage/non-mage EP
      1. If you are a mage the next section will remain mostly blank.
      2. Non-mages will have 6500EP to spend in various ways. The first line under the 'Non-Mage Ranking' header is the PC vs FT choice, which you can make via the drop-down menu. Below this are other ranking options for weapons and skills Column A has drop-down menu's of the things you may choose from to rank. Column D has the rank you wish to go to. There are restrictions on how high you may rank things at this stage. If you are unsure the GM overseeing the character creation will be able to assist.
    8. The next section details your free artisan and cheap skill options. Again these are dop-down menu's in column A.
    9. The final section covers any other character gen ranking you wish to do. Select what kind of thing you want to rank in Column B and Column A will change to a drop-down list that reflects that choice. Place the ranks you have and the ranks you are going to in Columns C and D. Continue selecting options until your EP runs out.
    10. Optionally on this page you can add in your characters Age and the date. This will allow the spreadsheet to keep track of your character's age automatically over the years you play them.
    11. Print out the Character Gen Sheet so that the assisting GM can sign it to confirm the character was created correctly.
  2. Change to the ranking sheet.
    1. Fill in the Name, Current Race, College, Aspect, Social Status and other data onto the boxes in the top left of the sheet. Do not alter the Current Race should match Starting Race. Starting Race and Age will auto complete from information on the Character Gen page.
    2. Fill in your actual stats. For a new character these should match the stats in the 'Start' column.
    3. Move the sheet to the right and fill in any skills, weapons, artisan skills languages and spell ranks that you have ranked during character generation.
      1. Some skills or races may have options you can select. Down the left hand side of the sheet are a series of option boxes that will show you when you have selections to make.
  3. Change to the Skills page.
    1. Hide any grayed out skills (these are ones you have not learned yet. Some skills also have extra white space for additional abilities as you learn them. These can be hidden as well to keep the page tidy for printing.
  4. Change to Character sheet.
    1. Enter in Weapons from the drop-down menus replacing hand and a half which is there as an example.
    2. Enter in your languages under common.
      1. Many languages get to rank 1 or 2 because of other languages you have at high ranks. You can also enter these here and it will show your effective rank.
  5. Change to the Equipment Page.
    1. As part of character Gen you have money to spend on items. As you spend it add the items to the Equipment sheet.
      1. Your Primary Armour goes in the top section.
      2. Next list any other armour you are planning to carry around.
      3. The third section is for weapons you are going to carry.
      4. The fourth is for other equipment you are planning to carry in combat.
      5. The largest section is for Other equipment you will be carrying but will generally drop prior to combat.
  6. Change to the Loadout Page.
    1. Enter in your remaining money in the money field.
    2. In the loadout section at the bottom change your weapons and armour to reflect the way you will normally look in combat.
      1. This loadout section can be copied and pasted onto a fresh page if you want more loadouts if you change weapons and arour combinations often. Ensure when copying the section you include Column V which contains some hidden cells.
    3. Enter any potions you have bought.
      1. If you do have potions you will need to go back to the equipment page to assign where these are stored when traveling.
  7. Once you are happy with all the pages, Print out the Character, Loadout, Spells (if a mage), Equipment and skills pages.

At this point you should have a fully usable character sheet.

Old Characters

Ongoing usage

The Pages

This is a detailed breakdown of the pages and the editable sections within each one.

The Character Sheet

This is the front page for your character and contains most of the information.

The only things that need to be added to this sheet are your weapons and languages. Both of these fields are drop down boxes and all additional info pertaining to them will be filled in automatically.

This sheet also has plenty of space so that the page can be customised to your own look and feel. Add pictures, crib sheets, combat tables or notes about your special abilities.

The Loadout Sheet

This is the sheet that stays loose in your folder and is where you keep track of fatigue, endurance, and any odd effects that occur during the adventure.

There are two area's that should be filled in. The first is the consumables section which allows you to keep track of the potions you are carrying. Simply select a potion type and they in the grid to the right enter the rank of the potions as per the example on the initial sheet. The weight of these potions is automatically added to your equipment sheet.

The loadout at the bottom of the sheet gives you the bulk of your combat numbers. You will need to select the weapons and armour you are using. These options are all drop down boxes.

This loadout section is independent and can be easily copied and pasted to a fresh sheet for characters that have a number of combat variations.
When copying this section ensure that column V is included in your selection as it contains some hidden values.

The Ranking Sheet

90% of all changes for the spreadsheet are completed in the Ranking sheet page and the fields that should be edited are highlighted in pale yellow.

As you do your ranking the changes should be made to this page and from there they will change the rest of the spreadsheet as appropriate.

The options and skill choice boxes will pop up as you change the rank in the skill. These will ensure that you always choose the correct number of options for your rank.

Weapons and Languages have an Effective rank as well as an actual rank. The effective rank should not be changed as it is calculated from other skill ranks. The effective rank is used through the rest of the spreadsheet.

The Experience sheet

This is where you can work out your ranking and keep track of the adventures you have been on.

The first thing to do is to make a copy of the sheet and ensure that the previous total on the new sheet matches the total on the old sheet. Once this is done change the name of the sheet to the name of the adventure from which you received the EP. Adding the date and a few details about the adventure will help you keep track in years to come.

Add in any experience you have gained as well as the time you have available in weeks adding any additional days in the column provided.

The first Column is for the item you are ranking. By selecting a type of ranking in the second box you can reduce this list to find things with greater ease. The time of day indicates when you are ranking and the Trainer column helps calculate any discounts you are entitled to. A number of rankable things require trainers and it may not allow you to rank without selecting 'Yes' in this field.

From and To are the fields where you enter the rank you have and the rank you are going to.

Discounts vary over time so the discount you are entitled to at the time of ranking appears at the far right of the screen. These should be coppied to the appropriate columns in the sheet in order to be applied to the ranking. As this is a manual field if you have anything that changes the discount you can simply make the change.

The sheet will automatically calculate the costs for trainers as you rank.
