Old Kadath

The city of Kadath (Kay-dar) was created in the distant past by Xanadu and the first generation of ancient dragons.

Although the dragons ranged all over Alusia, and onto other planes, they considered Kadath their first and true home and returned there often.

The original city consisted of a walled, circular island some 10 miles in diameter, joined to the mainland by eight bridges, each a mile long. On the mainland end of each bridge stood two larger than life dragon statues, one each of the sixteen first generation. The outside of the thousand foot high walls were carved with symbols; divine laws given to the dragons by their creator. These were named in later years by the elves: the laws of Draco. The island itself was a garden paradise.

The city was undamaged in the war with Baal -- it is believed that even he would not attack the dragon's true home, and when Baal was imprisioned and cast into the aether the dragons placed the keystone to his tomb at the centre of the garden in Kadath.

Eldarmar

When the dragons left Alusia on their long exodus, their Elven servants took possession of Kadath. In time, as their empire grew, they extended the city significantly, eventually renaming it Eldarmar (El-da-mah). The elves built a second ring to the city, divided into eight sections and separated by canals. The original bridge ends were turned into islands with docks where travelers would disembark before crossing into Kadath proper. Each of the sections was aligned with one fo the ancient elements and imbued with considerable power. The great nobles of the empire build houses and estates in the outer city, while the center remained park-like, save for the imperial tower at the exact middle.

When the Elven empire was destroyed in the War of Tears almost all of Eldarmar was also destroyed; only a small part of the original garden surrounding Baal's prison stone survived (probably because of protections placed on that device).

The outer city was smashed so thoroughly that volcanic fields were opened, and lava flowed and pooled. A wall of crags was thrown up and for hundreds of miles the land became a sea of dust and silt.

In time the Ruby Scourge built a new city on the ruins of Kadath. This city had no formal name; to those who lived there it was simply the City, to others in the Drow lands it was a place of myth at the centre of the dry sea.

As part of his plan to release his father, Apollyon and his brother Leviathan flooded the silt sea creating again an island around Kadath. In the final battle with Apollyon's army, elementals working for Istu and Ahriman undermined the crag wall causing the floodwaters to pour directly onto the volcanic plain and creating an explosion that destroyed the attackers, defenders, and the Ruby Scourge's city.

Kadath-that-was

A replica of the orignal Kadath created on Draconia, and site of extreme mana. Eriskigal's tower lay at the centre of this city.

Frozen Kadath

Less of a city and more an ice-sculpture of the original, this edifice exists in the Dreamlands.
