Gyldwasser Mountains This is a massively tall set of peaks set on a plateau rising out of the plain in northern Baltheim. The plateau is around 7,000' high and forty miles across, with at least 9 peaks rising to 12,000'-14,000' at various points. Most of the plateau is not only above the tree-line, but even above the snowline in Spring, apart from some alpine meadows.

History

813wk

These Mountains were surrounded by the Drow invasion forces in Winter 813wk. The inaccessability of the mountains has been a boon as the invading army has yet to be able to reach the level ground of the Salicton Plateau.

Spring 813WK - there have been increased reports of invaders in the mountains but the Town of Salicton still holds as does the fortifications at the head of the main passage up to the Mountains - Ned's Trail. The mountain men defending the area are hardy folk and well used to the climate but they are increasingly finding the bodies of not-so-hardy enemy left by the associates in the snow and ice.
The enemy are finding ways to gain access to the Mountains but mainly through flying up and the men of the Gyldwasser Mountains are getting good use from their bows as well as decent prey caught in their game traps.

Geographic Features

Mt Kernaptis

This mountain has a reputation for wild weather and storms frequently get hung up on its sides for days at a time. Legend has it that the mountain is home to many wizard towers in and on it and that when great wizards retire they retire here, but few can claim to have seen any and return to tell the tale. This mountain has a single peak at 13,980ft

Mt Nubium

This mountain peak is covered by clouds year round with formations spreading out a mile or so from the actual mountain. The mountain peaks at 11,356ft with a single peak. The clouds surrounding the mountain create an area which has a great number of lightning strikes each year (but not as many as Mt Kernaptis) and the few miners who come by here have told of large areas of lightning struck fused earth.

The Three Mountains of Dagon

These three mountains are supposed to the mythical resting places of three great dragons - Hagon, Gasson and Yudon, who were according to legend turned to stone in a battle with the gods and who will reside within the mountains until their time has come again for them to throw off their shackles of stone and finish the battle with the gods one way or another. These mountains all have volcanic caldera lakes (at or on their peaks) of reasonable size through which steam and other gases constantly vent above the boiling waters. Occasionally there is an explosion but the last one was 32years ago in 781wk and it only affected an area of a few miles around the mountain but killed 30 miners and their families who happened to be nearby at the time. The Lakes on these mountains are reputed to have strange properties but few have ever experimented there with the high risks of visiting such an inhospitable locale.

The Three Mountains of Dagon - Mt Hagon

This is the southern most of the mountains and has a peak at 12,700ft.

The Three Mountains of Dagon - Mt Gasson

This is the central mountain of the three and has a peak at 12,760ft.

The Three Mountains of Dagon - Mt Yudon

This is the northern most of the mountains and has a peak at 12,650ft

Mt Killarauz

This mountain is a mountain of angles where the stones themselves jut out at strange angles where stones have been thrust up from the very earth itself. The mountain has a triple peak at height of 14,100ft.

Mt Jaydite

This 12,500ft mountain has its lower slopes covered in greenery where any plants have managed to take root and thrive but the majority of the mountain is above the snow line covered in snow and ice year round. Miners that mine this mountain tell of gems of blue to deep green colouration which command good prices for their distinctive colouration and how the final polished product looks.

Mt Riphean

This mountain is 11,250ft tall

Mt Crisium

This mountain is 11,345ft tall.

The Leung Glacier

This Glacier is very old and large glacier that is about 5 miles wide (North-South) and 18 miles long (West-East). It doesn't move very fast and seems to be almost locked in place apart from occasional movements along its flanks. It's most notable aspect is in the far western portion where a slice appears to have been melted or sliced off and the water volume released which caused the destruction and subsequent abandonment of the Dwarven city of Kaz-Dogrul in 762WK.
