The Black Mandrake Ritual

After sunset on a fullmoon, hunt through the woods to find the elusive mandrakes that can only be noticed at night.
Take a black dog that has not been fed for some days and is ravenously hungry and attach a strong cord to it, and round the stalk of the plant at the bottom they fasten a noose securely from as far away as they can; then they put before the dog a large quantity of cooked meat which exhales a savoury odour. And the dog, burning with hunger and tormented by the savour, rushes at the meat that has been placed before it and with its violent movement pulls up the plant, roots and all. The mandrake will kill the dog immediately and when the dog dies then bury it on the spot.
