Barony of Donier

From DQWiki

A sleepy little barony on the edge of the swamp and inland of the bay. The town isn't very big but there is a reasonable sized castle there. The locals are mostly merchants and the like drawn here for trade and communications. The locals speak Folksprach but a number speak Common as well. Local support is for Lord Deitrich but this support erodes once you reach the town limits (2 miles) when support changes to Laurence.

People

  • Lord Deitrich Payne - Baron of Donier. A local lad who was kept happy when the ex King arranged his marriage to Lady Elsbeth in 799 as a way to cement loyalty. The oldest legitimate son of Iorworth and Baron Hagon Payne who died in 786. He fears losing his crown to his older illegitimate brother Laurence de Payne who he has branded an outlaw and has been unsuccessfully trying to capture of kill for the last few years.
  • Lady Elsbeth Payne (nee Yindal) - Baroness of Donier. 5'7", petite, blue eyed blonde with a beautiful face (PB23). She has reasonable intelligence and wits about her. She was previously Lady Fitzalden until her husband died in 798. Elsbeth is 2nd Cousin to the King and was used by the King to cement loyalty between Deitrich and the crown. She has a son grewing up in the SW of Eltrandor on the Fitzalden family estates until he is old enough to take his place as the lord of the Fitzalden Manor. She was 'encouraged' to marry by her kinsman the King in 800 to a man she hardly knew but for politics. She appears loyal and of steadfast fidelity even though she is stunning and sought after.
  • Lady Agathe Heldane - Lady in Waiting to Lady Emma. Lover of Anton. Resident in Donier.
  • Sir Anton Thomas Bodain - Lord of Grighight. A knight of Kinloch but the representative of the Duke of Kinloch in the Barony. Lover of Agathe. Resident in Kinloch.
  • Laurence de Payne. Lord Deitrich's older brother but illegitimate. He knows Deitrich's fears and is seeking to unsettle him and force him out of Donier so he can take over. A robin-hood type adventurer who has a band of very loyal men with him at all times and has the support of the local populace once you move past the town limits of Donier..
  • Symon. Lord Deitrich's young scribe who goes with him everywhere and transcribes or hears all that is being done in the realm.
